Book: The Power of Six

The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers. 2011.

"In the beginning I was known merely as Seven, one of the nine surviving Garde from the planet Lorien, the fate of which was, and still is, left in our hands. Those of us who aren't lost. Those of us still alive."

In this sequel to I Am Number Four, Pittacus Lore, one of the Lorien Elders reveals more about the other Garde that are here on Earth and are still in danger from the Mogadorians and their dangerous hunting beasts.

Marina along with her Cêpan have been in hiding for a little over 11 years in a small convent turned orphanage. Marina has been growing weary of her Cêpan's easy dismissal of their fate and her reluctance to leave the convent. After so many identities and so much running, the convent seemed like a safe place to remain for a while... but Marina has been secretly looking for the chest that is a part of her Lorien history, a chest that her Cêpan has hidden somewhere in the convent. Marina knows that danger may be lurking outside the convent walls and tries to do what she can to prepare for what she knows will come after her.

Meanwhile, John, Sam and Six are on the run - branded as terrorists and intending to find the other Lorien children before they too get killed by the Mogodorians. Hiding is tough, but necessary. John and Six realize that they need to work on improving their fighting skills and invite Sam to participate as well, sometimes ending in bruises and other injuries - but they continue to get stronger. John knows that he must step up and begin unraveling more of their history and mission, but thoughts of Six and Sarah... especially Sarah, make him act irrationally. Soon danger hounds them all and they're forced to split up... with Sam and John heading right into the Mogodorian stronghold cave in Virginia where all sorts of nasty surprised await.

This action-packed sequel is a quick and intense read. More information about the Loriens is revealed as they hone their powers in preparation to go against the Mogodorians. Are they strong enough? Will they be able to find more of the nine in time?

Many twists and turns await you as you read this second installment in the Lorien Legacies.

Book: I Am Number Four

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers. 2010.

"In the beginning we were a group of nine.
Three are gone, dead.
There are six of us left.
They are hunting us, and they won't stop until they've killed us all.
I am number four.
I know that I am next."

Know only as John Smith to the citizens of Paradise, Ohio, the boy of many names and identities has come to this town at the urging of his Cêpan, or guardian, Henri. They had to make a mad dash from the Florida Keys as another of the nine Lorien children sent to Earth has been killed. John knows that he is in danger and that staying in one place too long only invites danger to himself and those he cares about, which is why he has stayed on the fringes of the school population, never drawing notice to himself or trying to make friends... this all changes when his Legacies begin to show up - powers that manifest in the Garde - the Loriens with power that are meant to protect. On his first day, John attracts the attention of the most popular boy in school, Mark,  just by looking at a girl, Sarah. John just can't seem to get Sarah out of his mind. Those thoughts, along with the changes that his new powers are causing makes John act rashly and out of character, doing things that will point the evil race of Mogadorians to their location. The one good thing that John's weirdness brings is a friend in the form of an alien conspiracy geek named Sam Goode who believes that his own father was abducted.

An exciting adventure packed full of danger, action, humor and a touch of those warm feelings many call love, awaits readers as they learn more about the Lorien Legacies along with John and his friends.
