Book: Hurricane Gold: A James Bond Adventure

Higson, C. (2007). Hurricane gold: a James Bond adventure. New York, NY: Disney Hyperion Books.

Genre: Adventure, Suspense

Reading/Interest Level: Ages 12+

Similar Titles: Artemis Fowl

Plot: This is young Bond's fourth adventure, still well before his time as a famous spy, but even as a student, Bond managed to have an action-packed life. In this Bond adventure, James is on vacation in Mexico, where during a hurricane some thieves target the home of his host, Jack Stone, and kidnap Stone's children as leverage. The villain this time is El Huracan, and to save the day, James must make his way through a treacherous maze known as the Avenue of Death. Does James have the skills to save Stone's children and stop the bad guys?

Personal Thoughts: Like any James Bond novel, this one is full of action and adventure. Young James shows many of the signs that will make him the superspy he will be one day. Readers will enjoy learning about a kid who kicks butt. The book is fast paced and some of the plot can be hard to figure out, but that doesn’t mean that the book isn't exciting.
